June = big price tag

Yikes. It’s been a long time. A REEEEEEEEALLY long time. Sorry for the unexpected blog vacation. I’ve had a long going on…

Let’s pick up where we left off…

June. June’s focus was finances which was perfect because June was a BIG, important financial (among other things!) month for us......WAM wedding!

June was also going to be a time when we spent a lot of money. More than we spent in a month ever. June was the month that we had two apartments. 2 apartments = 2 months’ rent = 2 strapped for cash young adults. June was when we paid the balances on our venue, paid our caterer, paid hotels, paid for various wedding expenses and last minute expenses. We had lots of family in town. Will had a bachelor party. We entertained guests. We had three family birthdays. I spent the week getting all the last minute wedding prep stuff done with my mom, sister and mother-in-law. This is not a wedding post, but a financial goal post. Back on track!

My goal for June, which you may think it is lame and simple but it was legit, was to have money in my bank account. And the wedding account. And Will’s account.  Again, lame goal, but after all the happenings that happened in June I think it is a realistic goal! I didn’t want us to have an awesome wedding and then be completely broke. Not a great way to start off married life :(  Weddings are expensive. Will and I aren’t the type that need to have the biggest and best of things. We are pretty simple and I love to DIY and craft. So that is what we did :)

We made due and we worked it all out. We were in the positive for all bank accounts and did not have to put anything on credit. Go team!

I think some things that helped us were creating a budget, strategic planning, evaluating ideas before making purchases, paying things off as we go along and just overall a budget for everyday life, not just for WAM wedding.

That’s it. Lame finance post. Lame goal. I can’t wait for July….

  1. Not lame at all! It is absolutely admirable and completely uncommon (for most these days) that you guys were able to do that and stay in the black. HUGE kudos!
