We need to change. We need Jesus.

What the heck is going on with our country? It's not just "the rest of the world" anymore....it's our country. The place we Americans call home. The place we are supposed to be proud of. It's broken. We're broken.

The latest tragedy, the Boston marathon bombing, really shook me up. Will and I had a conversation about it. As two new inductees into the fabulous world of running, it scared us. For many reasons. The thing about the Boston marathon bombing that baffles us is that it is a recreational event that people  come from all over the country to participate in. People were there because they enjoy running. Seriously, they just like to run! They were not protesting. They were not shoving their views and opinions in anyone's face. They were not taking a stand. They were not trying to "give it to the man."

They were running. Others were cheering them on.

Bombs went off.

People died.

People lost limbs.

Lives were changed.

The thing I don't understand is why? It was not about politics. It was not about religion. It was not about race, gender, sexuality, guns, money....it was a run. A run for fun. It saddens me to no end that this happened. Something that both Will and I thought was that we are so,  so glad that Marin was not running in this marathon. I don't know what we'd do if she was at the race and something happened. I couldn't get over it. I am so happy that she was home, safe, not running. We love you Marin more than words.

As a runner, this is scary. As an American citizen it's scary. We don't only have to watch out for terrorist and others from foreign countries to hurt us, but it's our own. It's our American brothers and sisters that are taking action on us. Hurting us. That scares me.

Facebook was going crazy with posts about the bombing. About how we need Jesus. I agree. We do need Jesus, but we need more than Jesus. We need to change. In order to stop this madness, this violence, this hurt we need to change ourselves. We need to focus on our country, our people and our problems. We are broken. We need help. We need to change. We need to pray. We need to trust our faith. We need to remember the golden rule, "Do unto others and you would have them do unto you."

While I was in spin class today, this song came on the playlist and the words of the chorus struck me. They hit home with the latest tragedy and all of the tragedies we've experienced the past few years.

When will things change?

There is too much hate and not enough love in this world...
