Day 14: Sleep.

Sleep is essential. I love it. Big fan right here!

Do I get enough sleep? Ummm does anyone?

I love my sleep. I don't get enough.  But when I get sleep I am in love with it. When I wake up? Oh ya. I am a bear. I hate being woken up....I am like a child and need a few minutes to become human again. In high school I was super busy and would take naps as much as I could. You know what is awesome,  when I am taking a power nap and my wonderful sisters decide to wake me up by jumping on top of me and rolling over me. Yeah, who doesn't love to be woken up by that! Right. Me. I cried.

"They" say that 8 hours is ideal. Honestly, who actually gets 8 hours of sleep EVERY night?! Whoever does, mad kudos to you! Maybe I just plain suck with time management. Between hockey, work, school, trying to get a workout in, my abundance of homework, TA work, extra-curriculars' meetings and breathing, it is hard to get everything done and still get 8 hours of sleep.

Sleep is a great time to allow our minds and bodies to get the rest they need. We've been going, going, going all day long. Sometimes we need copious amounts of caffeine (especially this time of year) to get through the day. We put our bodies through so much. We need to give our bodies time to unwind from our hectic days and just relax.

So, I am going to set a goal for myself. GET MORE SLEEP. Get healthy sleep. Establish better sleeping habits, i.e. no drinking beverages especially alcohol before bed, go to bed earlier, stretch or do yoga before bed and allow myself to sleep in one weekend day! I think that's pretty doable. My body will thank me, I am sure!

Here's a fun article about some of the health benefits of getting adequate sleep: www.health.com and this one from Harvard about getting healthy sleep: healthysleep.med.

Today, sleep, I am thankful for you.
