Anywhere. Anytime. Any kind of music that I can move to, I will dance to. Our first dance at our wedding should be a testament to how much I love to dance! Now, I never said I was a good dancer, I just said that I love to shake what my mama gave me! BOOM!
Sometimes I feel like Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy and the need to "dance it out" like Meredith and Christina Yang do in the show hits home for me. When my bestie, Rachel, and I lived together at WSU we did this a lot. She was in her last year of school and I was just working living life. We danced it out quite a bit. We actually prefer to call it "Crazy Dancing." I think listening to The Darkness or any punk CD really got us going and felt amazing! My other bestie, Adri, and I danced it out to. Mainly after long nights in the ID studio or after I took a big test (my post interior design years). I remember feeling like I totally bombed (which I think I did - yikes. Puke.) a test and we put on fun accessories and just crazy danced...
I am fortunate enough to find a husband that will participate in crazy dancing with me from time to time. Sometimes, especially when American Dad comes on (I bust out my wanna-be cheerleader moves and sing the song. It's spectacular. Stay tuned for a video), I just start dancing by myself when I feel like it. Even if my husband thinks I am a completely weirdo. However...that makes me think of a story....
When we were trying to figure out which song to use for our first dance I thought about one song: LMFAO's Party Rock. You may think, "Umm, really? Party Rock?!" Well, yes. WAM is not so traditional and yes, many times we like to be different. I like to call it unique. Sounds nicer. Anyhoo....I remember a time when we were dating and we went to Rosauers to get some things for dinner and most likely booze and Party Rock came on the radio at the grocery store. Score! This song had just recently come out and we both were in love with it. At this moment, we were not in the same section of the store....or so we thought. I have a habit of dancing in public (especially grocery stores) and sometimes, hard to believe....<gasp> embarrass my husband. Me? No. Never! ;) We both turned our separate corners and were dancing like freaking radical dancing with the stars wanna-bes down the aisle! Needless to say, we laughed hysterically. I crossed my legs to prevent an accident.
It is now a great memory which I absolutely love. To pieces.
Dancing also takes place at work. Lots of times. Mainly in the afternoons when we are super tired and our brains are fried from dealing with "stuff" all day. It is part of what gets Lexi girl and I through the work day sometimes.
There is a quote that says...."Dance like no one is watching." I feel like I do this very well. I love to dance. I don't care what others think. It is a great way to express so many emotions and in a healthy way too!
There is a "famous" dance move called the "Tripod" but we'll save that for another post....
I couldn't get our first dance video to upload, but here is the link to it on my Flickr page :)
